Beautiful Soft Skin
Your skin is delicate and should always look its best.
The three layers of skin
Your skin is a very complex organ. It looks simple to us, but it is actually made up of three layers. In order to understand how your skin works, you need to understand its layers.
Epidermis
The epidermis is the top layer of skin. It is waterproof and is protective. It is the part you see and the part that you mostly take care of. How you treat the epidermis has a big impact on how your skin is going to look.
The epidermis is made out of skin cells. New skin cells are continuously being made at the bottom of your epidermis and make your way to the top. The cells you see are actually dead skin cells.
This is why we do chemical peels and facial scrubs. We are removing the dead skin cells to reveal newer radiant. That’s why you have to be careful with these types of processes not to tear away too much skin, but with the right scrub, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Dermis
The dermis is located right underneath the epidermis and contains all the appendages. These include nerve endings, oil and sweat glands, and blood vessels. The dermis brings nutrients to your skin through the blood vessels. This is wear taking care of your skin from the inside out comes into play. If you think what you eat, drink, and do to yourself on the inside has no effect on your skin, you are wrong.
The oil glands in the dermis produce sebum which is your skins natural oil. This is what allows your skin to be waterproof. It is a very necessary part of your skin, so don’t worry about it making your skin oily.
Hypodermis
The hypodermis is also called the subcutaneous layer. It is the bottom layer of your skin. This layer is made up mostly of fat to keep you warm and connects your skin to the tissue underneath. It keeps everything in place.
The hypodermis is where your hair begins to grow. It begins growing at the hypodermis and makes its way up through the dermis and then finally the epidermis. Your hair requires sebum as well as your skin and gets this from the subcutaneous glands.
As you can see, your skin is very complex. Simply washing it morning and evening is not enough to keep it looking its best.
