Beautiful Soft Skin
Your skin is delicate and should always look its best.
Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid
Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid are two very common agents used in acne fighting products and medications. They can both be very effective depending on the condition, but both do have their side effects.
Benzoyl Peroxide
Benzoyl peroxide is a common ingredient used to treat acne. It usually comes in creams and gels but is sometimes found in cleansers. It comes in concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. The 10% is thought to be more effective but is often no more effective than the 2.5%.
If you want a 10% concentration, ZAPZYT Maximum Strength 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Treatment Gel is a great choice. For a milder solution, I recommend Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment, Vanishing Formula
.
It is found in a lot of stronger products for extra acne fighting potential. It has been proven effective. Benzoyl peroxide works by clearing the pores and reducing bacteria. It is very effective, but has some side effects.
Some people are very sensitive to benzoyl peroxide causing burning, itching, peeling, or swelling. It is best to test out the 2.5% concentration on a neutral area to see how you react. Be very careful with it and avoid putting it around the eyes.
Salicylic Acid
Salicylic Acid is another great acne fighter. It often comes in the form of astringents or in facial cleansers. It is not nearly as drying as benzoyl peroxide and is a great alternative. It works by sloughing dead skin cells and clearing pores allowing room for new skin cells to regenerate.
Salicylic Acid is also used in anti-dandruff shampoos. Overall, it is another great acne fighter. You can get salicylic acid in the form of cleansing pads that you use right after watching. I like Clearasil Daily Acne Control Pore Cleansing Pads.
With one or the other, you should be able to gain at least some control over your acne, depending on how severe it is.
